Tara’s Story: A Teacher, a Mother, a Survivor
Tara was 45 when her very first mammogram revealed something she never expected—breast cancer. A mother of three and a dedicated teacher, Tara was suddenly thrust into a whirlwind of tests, surgeries, and life-changing decisions. Within just ten weeks, she underwent five surgeries, including a double mastectomy and full hysterectomy, all while navigating the emotional and physical toll of a cancer diagnosis.
Despite having insurance, the financial strain became overwhelming. Post-COVID job losses, rising medical costs, travel for multiple surgeries, and a costly ongoing medication regimen left Tara and her family struggling to stay afloat. As she fought for her health, she also fought to protect her children’s stability and her own sense of self.
With support from the AiRS Foundation, Tara now has hope for the reconstruction surgery that can help her feel whole again. The journey ahead is still long, but thanks to donor generosity, she’s not walking it alone.
A message from Tara:
“A big, big thank you once again to you all. Your support means more than words can express.”
