The AiRS Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing breast reconstruction to women who have had a mastectomy due to breast cancer but cannot afford the procedure.
There are some wonderful non-profits out there that help women while they’re battling breast cancer, but there are a shockingly small number of organizations that help women heal after they’ve beaten it. Time and time again, we hear from women who’ve undergone a mastectomy due to breast cancer who, even though they’re physically well, feel depressed and incomplete without their breasts. Because many of these women cannot afford reconstruction, which is often a complicated and expensive procedure, these women easily feel helpless and despondent.
That’s where we step in!
We offer grants that cover breast reconstruction for those women who cannot afford it. Our services don’t just cover the finances, though. We also provide each grant recipient with a patient advocate who walks through every step of the procedure with her, assisting her emotionally and advocating on her behalf. Moreover, we educate patients and healthcare professionals about the importance of breast reconstruction and the options available to them.
Our overall goal is to ensure that every woman, no matter her financial situation, has access to breast reconstruction after a mastectomy due to breast cancer as it is part of healing emotionally and physically and to help restore her self confidence
We’re fortunate to partner with a number of individual donors who offer their time and expertise to work as patient advocates. We also work with other breast cancer organizations, plastic surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to spread the word about the importance of reconstruction. Our partners help us financially and professionally help women in need.
