Brianne was diagnosed with breast cancer in September of 2020. Within the next 13 months, she had six surgeries including a double mastectomy, an incision revision, and a LAT flap procedure. Brianne was unable to work for six weeks due to her most recent surgery, and it took her a while to pay for the bills from this time. She needed one more procedure done but was having a “very difficult time trying to find the funds to cover out of pocket expenses.” She became depressed and wondered if she would even be able to receive the surgery.
Brianne said that “emotionally, physically, and mentally this last year and half completely drained me.” She “wanted to be able to wake up and not have to worry about another procedure.” Brianne knew the complement of the final surgery would allow her to “close this chapter and start to heal,” so she applied for a grant from the AiRS Foundation.
